Howard Meijer to Close its Doors

The newest Michigan based chain supercenter that opened it’s newest location on May 18th in Howard has made a shocking statement and people are very upset and confused. On Tuesday, May 23rd, channel 45 news reporters spoke to store director, Polly Emelander about Meijers newest location and the future of this location. When asked some questions Emelander disclosed that after corporate has reviewed the success of this new location, they have decided to close its doors and try a new location in the future. “We just don’t have enough parking or product to keep up with the demand of the area” said Emelander. “If we’re not taking care of our customers, we’re not serving our purpose as a business.” After meeting with the store director, channel 45 reached out to the President of Meijer, Hank Meijer, grandson of the original Fred Meijer, who opened the first Meijer store in 1934 in Greenville, MI. “It’s definitely disheartening to watch such a new store close so soon but it’s what’s best for the people of this community and the Meijer image we have to promote” said Meijer. We heard buzz about a new Meijer possibly scoping out the Bellevue area near competitor, Costco, in 2018. Hank was more than willing to provide insight on the new possible location, ” I believe that the Bellevue location, holds great potential and has the capability of being one of the most successful Meijer stores to open.” Meijer employees say not to worry about their doors shutting quite yet, they still have lots of great deals and the store won’t close until closer to August of this year. Meijer wants to thank everyone for coming to check out the store and thank the city of Green Bay for allowing them to build their 298th store in this outstanding city.
