6 teens added to Wilmington gang indictment; 28 arrested

The re-indictment added 16-year-olds Lloyd Smith, Sha’mir Sudler and Malik Winters; 17-year-old Elijah Thomas; 18-year-old Jeremy Tunnell; 15-year-old Syncere Tate; and 19-year-old Kenneth Truitt to an already lengthy court document that includes charges of gang participation, carrying concealed guns, robbery, attempted assault and drug charges.

Members of the group, known as “Only My Brothers” or OMB, face 109 felony charges in relation to activities associated with gang activity. The state first indicted 22 boys and men, ages 16 to 21, with similar charges in late July, but have added more teens to a group authorities have said is hard to quantify.

Loosely affiliated street gangs, often known as crews or cliques, can range from 20 to 90 members, state prosecutors said. They don’t fight over turf or drug operations, as many large gangs in the past. Instead, social media fosters an environment where an insult to one’s pride can trigger gunfire hours later, authorities say.
