Ahsoka Tano Confirmed Lesbian By JJ Abrams

(This article contains spoilers for “The Rise of Skywalker”)

Fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano made her debut in 2008’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Since then, she has quickly grown in popularity from Anakin Skywalker’s spunky Padawan to a wise and powerful Jedi Master that gave even Darth Vader a run for his money.

In a recent interview from Collider, JJ Abrams was asked about the Jedi voices heard in the climax of the final Skywalker Saga film, and what they meant.

“You know, it’s always fun to be able to build upon a pre-established universe…. you have a treasure trove of unique characters and while you want to make your own story, there are instances where you can’t pass up certain opportunities. The [Lucasfilm] Storygroup and Pablo [Hidalgo] were very passionate about the prospect of bringing back the voices of familiar Jedi voices.”

On the subject of one Ahsoka Tano, Abrams had this interesting tidbit to share:

“Yes, yes, so one of the voices was Ahsoka Tano, yeah, from Clone Wars. Dave Filoni graciously let us include her in our film since he’s very protective of her. One of our discussions about her future and the future of Star Wars was on the possibility of her sexuality, and where that could go. In very early versions of the script, we were throwing around this idea of having her in the flesh living with a spouse—a female spouse. Ultimately that went nowhere, but I think it’s safe to say that’s still the direction the character will go in.”

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is currently playing in theaters.
